Day 406 (Travel Day)

We’re so glad we stayed at the Presque campground as opposed to Union Bay. Union Bay offers electric sites. Presque is at the far west end of the park, but worth the 25-mile drive with the campground being more beautiful and in close proximity to those waterfalls. Wanting to see those would have meant driving 25 miles anyway had we stayed at Union Bay.

Today, we’re off to another location in the U.P. of Michigan…..McLain State Park in Hancock, MI and only a 2-hour drive. The town of Hancock appears to be lovely with its villagy vibe as we crossed the impressive draw bridge over Portage Lake. With its close proximity to Lake Superior, it is one of the snowiest places in the U.S. where it receives 205 inches of snowfall per year. The U.S. average is 25 inches per year, to give you some perspective.

Arriving at our new campground was even more impressive. Who knew we’d have one of the best sites in the park right across from Lake Superior. You can tell this is a high demand campground as every site appears full. We also didn’t realize that directly across from us, is an open area to simply enjoy the views with its inviting chairs and picnic table. With it not being a campsite, now we know no one can block our amazing view. Our site is wide and deep allowing for pretty good privacy. This will be quite the way to cap off our month’s stay in Michigan. It has been even better than we could have imagined and man has it flown by!

Enjoyed a beautiful evening watching an amazing sunset on Lake Superior while enjoying an 18-clove garlic pasta dinner. Yum!! 😋
