The Perfect Day!

Day 56

As Tim put it today…..the best summer day of 2020. We woke up to sunshine, we got some hiking in, we had water time, and we had a chill/O’ Be Joyful/grub time at Stickman’s to end our day. There you have it! Can you believe I summed up a day in less than a page?

Not so fast…..we need a few more details. I finally got to connect with my bestie, Michele who has just moved into a new rental in Napa, so I got a little tour via FaceTime. Looks perfect for her and her beloved dog, Turbo. So happy for her that this lovely home was available to her.

We decided before our afternoon of kayaking that we needed a hike. So back we went to Tryon State park via a different path, for a beautiful hike once again. Sadie was completely digging it (no pun intended!) Most people were wearing masks on the trails, especially when passing others. What will it be like when we don’t have to wear these things anymore??

Then we took off for a kayak adventure on the Willamette River where we signed a few waivers and we were off.

It was nice to be back in a kayak again. We just didn’t have room to haul our 14 foot kayaks around for a year. Of course a kayak trip is not a kayak trip without a few libations. Tracy and Tim had whipped up Pina Coladas before we left; the perfect drink for the perfect kayak trip. With a lot of boats out today, we made the most out of the wakes they created each time they’d drive by. After returning the kayaks, we stopped at George Roger’s Park to check out the largest furnace west of the Rockies called the Oswego Iron Furnace. Built in 1866, it was the first blast furnace on the Pacific Coast and was Oregon’s largest manufacturing enterprise in the 19th century, producing pig iron for foundries in Portland and San Francisco. Thank goodness they had the sense to restore it.

We ended up at Stickman’s and got seated right away. With the perfect seat and view, we decided to stay for dinner as well. Delicious crusted salmon, Caesar salad, roasted brussel sprouts, ribs and chicken arugula sandwiches and of course BEER. Sadie was so glad to see us once we got back to Tim and Tracy’s place. Wish she could have gone on the water with us. So, including Sadie, we all took a walk to get an ice cream treat at the Salt and Straw. Sadie might have had a few licks. I can’t remember the last time I had ice cream. And one scoop was plenty!! Fun day!
