Day 546

First of all, we are so saddened to hear about the families that have been affected so deeply by the violent tornadoes in Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Our hearts and prayers go out to those affected. In Kentucky specifically, many consider this to be the worst, most devastating tornado to ever hit the area as it swept through the state leaving a path of destruction for over 220 miles, a record, and it’s not even tornado season. Is the abnormal becoming the new “normal”? Of course I had a great concern for Hannah, Devin and the kids in Illinois. Their worry becomes our worry. Evidently, they had a tornado warning with sirens and all. Because their friend has a basement, Hannah and Devin were packed and ready to drive the 3 minutes to get there, but received an “all clear” before leaving. This series of horrific events makes me even more worried for our travels since things are happening so unpredictably now. We’ll certainly be more vigilant about our route and stay more tuned into our weather radio, assessing risk. Flash floods, tornados, hurricanes, wildfires….. it’s all real AND deadly.

Those of us who stayed up late with Ken and Birdie’s party slept in till about 10:00 a.m. except for the hosts. The plan was to go out to breakfast in Manteca but with the 11:00 closing time, we just couldn’t seem to get out the door in time. So instead, Ken and Birdie were so sweet to cook a delicious pancake, hashbrown and egg breakfast for all of us, as if they didn’t do enough already with the fondue party the day before. We spent a few hours cleaning up the “aftermath” before the 49’er game. Since Birdie’s daughter and family had to leave right after breakfast, we had Ken and Birdie all to ourselves for the remainder of the day. It was great to spend some good, quality time with them. And the 49’ers beat the Cincinnati Bengals 26 to 23. A really good game and a really great visit. Let’s hope we get to see eachother again before we leave California.
